Class Description

In this 8-week course, students will learn a variety of aquatint techniques to add tonality to their works. Through basic aquatint, polishing of the etch, spit bite, sugarlift, and soap ground we will learn how to push our practice further and create gorgeous painterly etchings. This course is for both beginner and advance students, as we challenge the need of line etching and push the possibilities that aquatint can offer. No prior printmaking experience needed and all levels are welcome; we will begin with intaglio basics like handling plates, beveling edges, proper inking and wiping techniques, preparing the press for printing, and finally the production of beautiful prints. We will also look at many artists approaching intaglio in this manner and will help your practice through individualized critique. *includes 12 hours of open workshop time About the instructor Néstor Pérez-Molière was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and currently resides in The Bronx, New York.
