Class Description

A paper lithograph, or gum arabic transfer, is a non-toxic process for pulling prints from black and white photocopies, laser prints, or hand drawn images. More than reproductions, these prints will serve as jumping-off points for building layered, evocative images. Together we will explore ways of combining paper lithography with monoprint techniques to create new works and to bring new meaning to previously unresolved prints. Demos, technical troubleshooting, and informal critique will be included. $300.00 + Material Fee: $50.00 *includes 6 hours of open workshop time Instructor Bio: Lisa D. Archigian is a Visual Artist, Librarian, and Educator based in the Bronx. With a background in painting, printmaking and illustration, she earned a BA in Arts, Literature and Writing from Union Institute and University, and an MLS from Queens College, CUNY, specializing in Children’s and Young Adult Services in the Public Library. Her visual work has been featured in exhibitions at Yale University, and in galleries in New York, Los Angeles and Kyoto, among others. More than 100 of her illustrations are featured in The Five Books of (Robert) Moses, an alternate history of New York by Arthur Nersesian (Akashic Books, NY, 2020; Kirkus starred review). Lisa first came to Manhattan Graphics Center in 2015 as a Scholarship Artist, and is grateful to have first learned Paper Lithography as a student of David Thomas during that time. She later became a Monitor, then Chair of the Scholarship Committee, and now serves as President of MGC’s Board of Directors. BFK, Stonehenge for sale at MGC) ● Newsprint (for sale at MGC) ● Oil paint or various etching inks if you already use it in your work ● unresolved, old prints and works on paper

Cancellation Policy

STUDENT CLASS CANCELLATION If a student must drop out of a class, 75% of tuition will be refunded as long as MGC is notified 15 days or more prior to the start date of the class. If a student notifies MGC less than 15 days prior, no tuition can be refunded. Membership and materials fee are non-refundable.
