Class Description

INTAGLIO IMAGE TRANSFER USING PRESS-N-PEEL We will explore transferring black and white images to 18 gauge copper plates using Press-n-Peel PCB Blue film (an iron on transfer film patented by Technics, Inc), originally used to lay down circuit board patterns. You will learn how to transfer your image, aquatint, and print. The plate may be further worked using traditional intaglio techniques to enhance your image. In the class we will work with high contrast black and white images, but you may decide to further explore transferring grey tones independently after the class. Previous experience with aquatint required. About the Instructor Gerry Wall comes from a family who works with their hands. She is a multimedia artist living and working in NYC. The physical properties of copper and the ability to manipulate and experiment with its surface was immediately attractive. She is drawn to texture, clothing, and fabrics often combining those elements. Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Supplies 1-3 18 gauge copper plates, filed, but not backed, no larger than 6x8”. The film is 8.5x11”, so can get 2 images using 5x7” plates to 1 sheet. Printmaking paper (Hahnemühle Copperplate is sold at MGC) Ink spreaders Tarlatan (sold at MGC) Inverted black and white images. Line works better than large areas of solid black. Image should be slightly larger than plate. Instructor will contact students to elaborate before workshop
