Class Description

Make 5+ artist books from start to finish. Make quick models and then develop them into books. Reuse your prints! Make one-of-a-kind books, collaborative group books—and limited editions—as well as sketchbooks, albums, etc. Each session will focus on a different structure, building skills as the class progresses. Accordion and other folded structures—including flag books—simple pop-ups, stab stitch & flip books, single signature stitching and multisignature books. Guest artists, discussions about selling work—and how artist books can help interest curators in collecting your other works. About the Instructor Esther K Smith is the author and designer of HOW to Make Books and 5 other book arts books. Artistic director at Purgatory Pie Press, she makes limited editions, collaborating with printer/typographer Dikko Faust and other artists. Exhibitions include Metropolitan Museum, London's V&A—collections include MoMA, Whitney, Cooper Hewitt, Brooklyn Museum and other public and private institutions from Harvard to San Francisco MoMA to London's Tate to Azerbaijan's Miniature Book Museum. *includes 8 hours of open workshop time Limited to 6 students Members get 10% Use code MEMBER10

Cancellation Policy

STUDENT CLASS CANCELLATION If a student must drop out of a class, 75% of tuition will be refunded as long as MGC is notified 15 days or more prior to the start date of the class. If a student notifies MGC less than 15 days prior, no tuition can be refunded. Membership and materials fee are non-refundable.
