This class is designed for printmakers and other visual artists who would like to incorporate their work into handmade books and pamphlets, often known as artists’ books. Students will be introduced to several basic book structures (accordion fold, pamphlet stitch and Japanese stab binding) and will learn how to properly use various adhesives and bookbinding tools. Participants should bring prints and artwork they would like to incorporate into books and may also devise book structures they can use for future projects. Methods of adding text and collage elements to book structures will also be covered.
