Silk Aquatint is a painterly plate-making process which can have the richness of mezzotint, the spontaneity of action painting, the sheer washes of a water color, and the vivacious surface of a palette-knife impasto, all without acid. This collagraphic plate-making method is created by painting with acrylic paint; applying white onto a blackened field, working from dark to light as one does in developing a mezzotint image. The resulting intaglio plates can last for over 100 impressions and are printed on an etching press with inks that clean with water, (Charbonnel Aqua Wash or AKUA soy based intaglio ink). Beginners and advanced students welcome.
