A woodblock matrix offers many possibilities for working with texture in printmaking. Each type of wood posses inherent qualities of grain, density, and even warmth. Learn how to work with several types of wood through preparation of the block, carving/embossing, and printing. We will cover different ways of inking up a woodblock as well as experimental approaches to mark making and creating texture in the wood. Create prints that stand alone or to be used as collage material. Chine colle and other collage techniques will be covered.

Awagami Paper will be sponsoring the class and students will receive packages of paper to be used for printing.
