The workshop is geared to demystify types of glues, tapes, and mounting techniques keeping in mind archival life and flatness. Learn to use the appropriate adhesive for diverse materials, such as papers, wood, found objects, and cloth. Each student will make several colleges by a quick layout stratagem using tiny rare earth magnets and steel plates as layout boards. Then the adhesion of the different collage materials will be demonstrated by Kathy. Be inspired to try new combinations of Western and Asian papers and discover how to seam papers together to create very large pieces. You will be introduced to new tricks and handy tools for better control and handling. Some of the exercises include: seam gluing paper, hinging choices, sampling a variety of glues and tapes and mounting tissues, inserting cuttings, and for printmakers, chine collé, gluing on a print through the press. Kathy will present collage samples from her collection.
