This workshop uses pre-existing plates to explore intaglio printmaking as an adventurous medium. Etched plates can be combined with monoprint or printed in combination with a variety of surfaces to create new and enriched imagery. Unusual methods are explored, including use of acrylic gels for painterly transparencies and carborundum for textural effects. The class also explores the use of secondary shaped plates and embossing effects, as well as the creative possibilities inherent in such techniques as chine collé and a la poupeé. The focus is on individuality and our endless capacity for experimentation.
