EXHIBITIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

MGC members are encouraged to submit proposals for exhibitions under the below guidelines. Small Group/Open Call exhibition proposals from MGC members must be submitted to the Exhibitions committee for review and approval by the Executive Director.

REQUIREMENTS

  • MEMBER ELIGIBILITY: An artist must be a member of MGC for at least one year prior to their request AND have enrolled in a class or rented workshop time over the past year.

  • WORK ELIGIBILITY: Works must be original prints created using the tools and techniques of printmaking media. Reproductions of works originally created in another format are not permitted.

SALES 

  • MGC will collect a 20% commission for sold artwork. 

  • For online exhibitions, the shipping can be handled either by the artist or MGC. 

  • If you would like MGC to handle shipping, there will be a $15-30 fee based on the size of the work. 

  • Oversized works may require a higher handling fee.  

 

SOLO OR TWO-PERSON SHOWS 

  • BOOKING LIMITATIONS: No artist may have a solo or shared duo exhibition more than once every two years. MGC members who have not yet had a solo exhibition will be given priority over those who have exhibited before. 

Organizing member should: 

  • Contact Exhibitions Committee to get on the schedule 

  • Coordinate all details with the Exhibitions Committee. For Onsite exhibitions, this begins six months in advance of the opening date. For Online exhibitions, it should be at least six weeks in advance. Click here for more information.  

  • Organize an opening reception, discussion, or guest speaker with the Exhibitions Committee; Thursdays or Fridays are preferred. 

  • Pay exhibitions fee before the opening date 

 

SMALL GROUP SHOWS (3-10 artists) 

  • These are exhibitions where selected members’ work is shown (no open call) 

  • Organizing member should: 

  • Submit a proposal to the Exhibitions Committee: 

  • Brief discussion of concept/theme (150-200 words) 

  • List of artists to be included 

  • Explanation of how this idea came about and how artists were selected 

If proposal is approved:  

  • Communicate with exhibiting artists 

  • Coordinate all details required with the Exhibitions Committee. For Onsite exhibitions, this begins six months in advance of the opening date. For Online exhibitions, it should be at least six weeks in advance. Click here for more information.  

  • Organize an opening reception, discussion, or guest speaker with the Exhibitions Committee; Thursdays or Fridays are preferred. 

  • Pay exhibitions fee before the opening date 

  • If the member wishes to appeal the fee, this must go to the Executive Committee for approval. The Executive Committee meets bi-weekly. 

 

OPEN CALL (OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS) 

  • Organizing member should submit a brief discussion of concept/theme (150-200 words) to the Exhibitions Committee. This should be done approximately 9-12 months in advance of desired date. 

If approved:

  • Write a statement (based on theme/concept proposed) 

  • Organize an opening reception, discussion, or guest speaker with the Exhibitions Committee; Thursdays or Fridays are preferred. 

  • MGC staff will handle all calls for entry, communications with members, and collection of artwork, images, and information.   

  • All submitting artists’ work will be shown with equal treatment. 

  • Fee will be waived 

 

JURIED GROUP EXHIBITIONS 

Exhibitions that involve elimination of some entrants, special treatment of some entrants, or prizes cannot be proposed or organized by members. They must be handled by MGC staff and will involve a third-party juror.  Members are, however, welcome to submit concepts for consideration.  They will also, of course, be welcome to submit their artwork for potential inclusion in the exhibition.

​Please contact the exhibition committee to schedule the following dates. Requests must be made at least six months in advance.

  • Exhibition dates

  • Materials received by date

  • Webinar/artist talk date

  • Install/Take-down dates for on-site exhibits

  • Reception date for on-site exhibits

PAYMENTS / FEES​
  • Onsite/main gallery: $200 

  • Onsite/project gallery: $150 

  • Onsite/entire gallery (main + project): $300

  • Online/website: $150 

  • PAYMENT: Due on the 1st day of the month that the exhibition takes place. 

  • SALES PROCEEDS: MGC takes a 20% commission. MGC will collect all payments for print sales and will collect required sales tax – 8.875%. MGC will pay artists net proceeds within 30 days of take-down.

PROMOTION​
  • Exhibitions are promoted on the MGC website, its email list, and on its social media channels. The artist may also publicize the event on his/her own. 

  • Printed postcard announcements are not provided by MGC, and are at the discretion of the artist. 

  • Materials outlined below are due 60 days before the opening date and should be copied to the following email addresses:​

TITLE/TEXTS

  • A short title (under 10 words)

  • Brief biography (150 words or less)

  • A succinct artist's statement specific to the work being shown (250 words or less). Do not submit a general artist's statement. These texts may be subject to editing for length/style from MGC staff. They will be used online, in email blasts, and may be excerpted for social media.  The full text can also be affixed to the wall in the exhibition space during installation.

IMAGES

  • 3-5 high-quality jpg files of works in the exhibition

  • 72 dpi resolution or higher, measuring 1,000 pixels at the shortest span.​

SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES

  • Please provide your Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn information so we can tag you in MGC posts.

​​ON-SITE RECEPTIONS

  • Receptions and talks must be scheduled on a Friday from 6 pm to 8 pm

  • Refreshments and beverages are not provided by MGC.​

  • The artist may provide beverages or refreshments, but s/he will be responsible for cleanup and it must be completed by 10 pm, when MGC closes for the evening.​

  • MGC's funders require that all receptions and talks related to exhibitions be open to the public.
