Ann Link: Transformation - Industrial Sites Along the Gowanus Canal
February 3 - 28, 2020
Reception: February 7 | 6:00-8:00 pm
B.S. Design – University of Cincinnati – 1991
Ann Link's recent work examines the post-industrial structures of the Gowanus Canal neighborhood of Brooklyn. Her interest in decaying industrial areas began during her childhood in the rust belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio during the 1960s and '70s, where she witnessed industrial decline and environmental degradation. Post-industrial decay has been the focus of her work as an artist. Link traces industrial architecture, structural decline, and physical weathering, capturing the beauty of the structures as they are continually repurposed, whether for reuse, or as a canvas for graffiti. The images originate from iPhone photos that are later modified for screen printing using Photoshop.
