AWAGAMI WASHI AND PRINT EVENT /

CHINE COLLE WITH BETH GANZ

Awagami is a brand of Japanese washi papers made for fine art and digital inkjet printmaking. Awagami is run on the knowledge and skill gained through 300 + years (8 generations) of family papermaking) in Tokushima Japan.
This special event features Awagami’s presentation on its washi, an open forum, show-and-tell, inspection of samples, and sale. 
In addition, MGC artist and instructor Beth Ganz will be doing a chine collé demonstration using the Awagami washi.

AWAGAMI PRESENTATION    

A powerpoint presentation reviewing the history of washi including short videos showing true washi hand papermaking. The presentation spotlights many examples of award-winning creative works made with washi and illustrates how the mill acts as an “ambassador” of washi culture (via workshops, residencies, Unesco projects, etc….). This is an open-forum presentation and participants are encouraged to ask questions in order to establish a creative dialogue about the artistic possibilities of washi.

AWAGAMI SHOW AND TELL / PAPER SALE
  • Fine Prints on washi to inspect (intaglio, inkjet, silkscreen, platinum/palladium, etc….)

  • Free washi paper sample packs for all

  • Limited quantities of full washi sheets for sale at a very special price

11:15 am – 12:15 pm

Students will form 1 or 2 groups to watch/participate in the instructors demo using Awagami washi papers. The mill will gladly supply all instructors’ papers for both preparation and the actual demo itself. Awagami’s staff will be present during the demos to answer any questions that may arise.
