The works in this exhibition were created using techniques developed and taught by Nandini in her class “Beyond the Print” at Manhattan Graphics Center. The course has been offered regularly since 2014.
Each artist in this exhibition stretches the boundaries of traditional printmaking in their own unique way. The works are based on a wide range of print techniques including etching, linocut, collagraph, monotype, Japanese woodblock, paperlitho, silk aquatint, chine-collé, drypoint, aquatint, sugarlift and digital transfer. From there, the artists use specific experimental printmaking methods to print on Japanese paper, which are then combined with drawing, watercolor, sewing, and so on. The varying translucency in the papers facilitates rich layering and depth, with a focus on composition and balance.
